December 26, 2013, Victoria, BC (ISN) – With the WHL’s holiday break now completed, the Victoria Royals return to Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre tomorrow night to face the Prince George Cougars in a two-game, B.C. Division home set. Puck drops on Friday and Saturday are scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

The Prince George Cougars will visit Victoria for the second time this season after dropping a pair of decisions in the Royals’ house back on October 14th and 16th. With a 14-18-2-3 record, the Cougars currently hold the fourth spot in the B.C. Division and sit four points back of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. In early November, Prince George acquired veteran forward Todd Fiddler from Moose Jaw to bolster the attack.

Since joining the Cougars, Fiddler has 27 points (13g-14a) in just 17 games played. St. Louis Blues draftee Zach Pochiro is recently back from injury to help the offence as well with his 23 points (11g-12a) in 29 games while Detroit Red Wings draftee Marc McNulty leads the team’s defencemen with 16 points (6g-10a) in 32 games this season.

The Royals went 3-1-0-1 on a five-game road trip before the break and dealt losses to Swift Current, Lethbridge and Edmonton to head into the holidays on a high note. Victoria posted a franchise record 48 points (23-13-0-2) ahead of Christmas this season and will look to continue their strong play in the second half. Recent acquisition and Winnipeg Jets prospect Axel Blomqvist has helped the Royals’ offence with 13 points (3g-10a) and a plus-eight rating in his 12 games so far for Victoria.

Veteran forward Ben Walker has had a hot hand of late as well with seven goals in his last seven games. The Royals will continue to play in front of two of the WHL’s top goaltenders in Patrik Polivka and Coleman Vollrath. Polivka is ninth in the league with a 2.55 GAA and a .918 save percentage in 27 appearances while Vollrath ranks atop the WHL with a 2.06 GAA and a .937 save percentage in 15 contests.
