UVic’s Jessica Renfrew led the Vikes in scoring with 13 points, followed by Cassandra Goodis and Jenna Bugiardini who accounted for nine and eight points, respectively. McMaster’s Hailey Milligan was a dominant force for her squad, posting 32 points in the match while fellow starter Danielle Boiago contributed 19 points. Liz Burns posted 10 points for McMaster after coming off the bench.

The Marauders held just a one-point advantage over the Vikes after the first quarter, leading by a slim 16-15 margin. A strong second-quarter push by McMaster saw them outscoring the Vikes 24-10 taking commanding 40-25 lead at the half in the process.

Despite an offensive push in the third quarter, the Vikes were unable cut the Marauders lead to less than nine points. Boiago made her presence felt in the quarter, converting several lay-ups, free throws and a three-pointer with 90 seconds remaining that put her side up 62-41.

Both sides tightened up defensively for the final quarter of the match, with the Vikes getting outscored 12-10 in the period. The Marauders would retain the lead up until the final whistle, handing the Vikes their first loss of the exhibition tournament.

The Vikes will look to return to the winning column when they face the Western Mustangs in their second game of the tournament at 10 a.m. PST. The game will be streamed live at www.austv.ca
