January 2, 2014, SASKATOON, SK (ISN) – The Saskatoon Blades are pleased to announce that centre Chase Clayton has been named as the team’s Heinrichs Jewellery Player Of The Month for December.
The product of Abbotsford, BC joins Nikita Scherbak (September/October) and former-Blade Collin Valcourt (November) as winners of the award so far during the 2013-14 season.
The 5’11, 190 pound Clayton posted a pair of goals and an assist for 3 points in 11 games during the month of December. He also added 13 PIMs. On the season, Clayton has put up 4 goals and 14 points in 38 games split between Saskatoon and the Calgary Hitmen.
Clayton is also looking ahead to a big second half with Saskatoon. With the recent trades of Collin Valcourt and Nathan Burns, Clayton has been shifted up in the depth chart. Yesterday against Swift Current, Clayton played on the top line with Scherbak and Nick Zajac. The new line combination found instant success as the trio combined for 3 goals, 7 points and a +9 rating.
“I’ve been getting a lot of opportunity lately with our situation and our transactions,” said Clayton following the Blades 6-3 win over Swift Current. “I’m just trying to make the most of it and take advantage of my opportunities.”
Despite the trades by the Blades and the line juggling that’s come along with it, Clayton is looking at the bigger picture and at the team as a whole.
“Nothing changes,” he said. “We have to be a hardworking team and outwork our opponents every night. It’s all about consistency with our group.”
Clayton will be presented with a watch from Heinrichs Jewellery prior to the Blades home game on January 8th, when they play host to his former team the Hitmen.
