Hawks fall 5-1 in Tri-Cities Friday

January 3, 2014, Kennewick (ISN) – The Portland Winterhawks (25-11-2-2) fell 5-1 in Kennewick, Washington Friday against the Tri-City Americans (18-18-2-2).

Tri-Cities struck for the lone goal of the first period when Philip Tot scored a power play goal at the 7:28 mark to give the Americans a 1-0 lead.

Lucas Nickles made it 2-0 for Tri-Cities midway through the second, and Jordan Davies added another as the Americans took a 3-0 lead into the third.

Tri-Cities took a 5-0 lead on third period goals from Beau McCue and Brian Williams. Portland got on the board when Chase De Leo scored at the 12:06 mark to make it 5-1, which would be the final.

The Hawks were once again without Taylor Leier, Nic Petan and Derrick Pouliot, who are all representing Canada at the World Junior Championship, and Brendan Leipsic, who’s serving a suspension.

The Hawks return to action tomorrow when they host the Victoria Royals at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
