January 3, 2014, Salmon Arm (ISN) – What a way to begin 2014. The Salmon Arm SilverBacks are very proud to announce that 20 year old Forward Landon Smith has agreed to play for the Quinnipiac University Bobcats, as of the 2014-2015 campaign.

Smith, a BCHL rookie, hailing from Denver, Colorado, has cemented himself as one of the most dynamic players in SilverBacks recent history, as he entered the Holiday break leading the BCHL in points, and goals, with 59 points, and 33 goals, in just 37 games.

SilverBacks General Manager and Head Coach Troy Mick says Landon’s natural talent, and vision with the puck, are a rare, and lethal combination “He’s a fantastic shooter, and a wonderful playmaker, it’s been a real joy to watch him play with Evan Anderson, and Alex Gillies; they bring such dimension to the game, and work so well together as a line that it’s a treat to watch for Coaches and fans, alike.”

There’s good reason Smith and Anderson have had such chemistry for the SilverBacks, they played together on the Colorado Thunderbirds U16 team that won a National Championship, back in 2009-10, and now they’re trying to bring the SilverBacks to the same level.

Troy Mick says Smith’s play this season will not be forgotten around Salmon Arm anytime soon “He has that inner drive to score goals, and put his team on his back that is sometimes lost by the time players hit his age. We know that the fans here in the Shuswap have been blown away by his skill-set, and will be very happy to hear this news. “

Smith may not have any friends at Quinnipiac; as of yet, but he will certainly have lots of teammates to share stories with, as the Bobcats have former SilverBack Brayden Sherbinin on their roster, along with six other BCHL veterans.

The SilverBacks would like to congratulate Landon, and his family, on this wonderful achievement, while wishing the Bobcats the best of luck in reaching the NCAA’s National Championship game again this season.
