Huskies win four medals at Golden Bears Open

January 4, 2014, Alberta (ISN) – The University of Saskatchewan Huskie wrestling team won four medals at the annual University of Alberta-hosted Golden Bear Open Saturday.

At the tournament, Saskatchewan won two silver medals and two bronze medals. As a team the men finished third among varsity squads, while the women finished fourth.

Annie Monteith captured silver in the 48-kg weight class, while 2013 CIS Second Team All-Canadian Dylan Bray won a silver in the 57-kg weight class. Shane Johnson (54-kg) and Andrew Johnson (82-kg) each won bronze medals for the Huskies.

Other Huskies competing were: Silke Svenkeson (4th, 51-kg); Katie Dutchak (5th, 51-kg); Laryssa Barry (6th, 51-kg); Theo Dow (4th, 65-kg); Cassidy Beilhartz (6th, 63-kg); Malcolm Meekins (4th, 72-kg); Jeff Kirzinger (6th, 76-kg) and Jacob Philips (6th, 130-kg).

The Huskies, who host the Canada West Championship February 14-15, travel to Regina for the Cougar Open January 11.
