January 6, 2014, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The Victoria Royals are pleased to announce that the club has acquired defenceman Travis Brown (1994) from the Moose Jaw Warriors in exchange for the rights to forward Noah Gregor (1998) and a pair of third round WHL Bantam Draft picks.

Brown comes to Victoria after suiting up for Moose Jaw since the 2010-11 season. Drafted in the fifth round, 149th overall, by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2012 NHL Draft, Brown has posted 38 points (9g-29a) to go along with 48 penalty minutes in 43 games this season for the Warriors.

“We are excited to add such a talented player to our blue line,” Royals’ General Manager Cameron Hope said. “Travis has the kind of exceptional vision and skill that we believe will make him an immediate contributor to our success this season.”

The 6-2, 193 lb blueliner’s 38 points so far this season has him one point shy of his career high and ranks him fourth amongst all WHL defencemen in scoring. Brown brings with him playoff experience after he played in 10 games during the 2012 WHL Playoffs in which he picked up two assists as well as appearing in three games in the 2011 post-season.

The Winnipeg, MB product has been a consistent producer during his time with Moose Jaw, notching 109 points (25g-84a) in 182 career games as well as 147 penalty minutes. Brown was originally selected in the fourth round, 76th overall, of the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft.

The rights to unsigned, 1998-born forward Noah Gregor go to Moose Jaw in the trade. Gregor was drafted by the Royals in the third round, 55th overall, of the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft.

Royals’ General Manager Cameron Hope will have a media availability at 3:30 p.m. today outside of the Royals’ dressing room.
