January 5, 2014, Burnaby, BC. (ISN) – The Simon Fraser University Men’s Hockey Team is excited to announce a partnership with Shnarped Hockey© to help bring SFU Hockey fans even closer to their favourite players with the revolutionary app. The partnership will begin with the 2014 Great Northwest, January 3rd and 4th 2014 at Bill Copeland Arena in Burnaby.
Shnarped Hockey is an App that allows fans to follow and connect with their favourite hockey players in a way that has not been seen before. With a fee download of the APP, fans can select which players they want to follow, and then have a newsfeed that provides them with updates on the players including stats, injury news, and videos. It also allows fans to interact with the players through the use of a “pound” that sends a personalized message directly to the player, that can be responded to. Shnarped Hockey was founded by former pro hockey player Dustin Sproat, who also played for the Princeton University Men’s Hockey team. Shnarped was recently featured on the hit CBC show Dragons Den, with the team scoring a deal with all 5 Dragons.
Shnarped Hockey will be on hand during the 2014 Great Northwest Showcase, showing off the app on the concourse during the course of the event. Found Dustin Sproat will also be performing the ceremonial puck drop before the UBC vs Princeton game on Saturday January 4th at 4:00pm. Fans are being encouraged to download to app from the Itunes App store or from the Google Play store. All 4 teams participating in the GNS will be uploaded to the app before the tournament begins.
The Great Northwest Showcase features elite College Hockey programs from Canada and the United States. Now in its 2nd year the tournament will feature 7 time NCAA Champion University of North Dakota, Ivy League powerhouse Princeton University, along with UBC of the CIS and the host SFU Clan of the BCIHL. The event runs January 3rd and 4th at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre in Burnaby.
