January 7, 2014, Victoria, BC (ISN) – The South Island Royals are proud to announce in partnership with the BC Major Midget League (BCMML) that forwards Nick Guiney and Haydn Hopkins have been named to the BCMML All-Star Game in Langley, BC.
Guiney, a resident of Victoria, BC has appeared in 24 games for South Island so far this season where he has amassed 32 points (18g-14a) along with 32 minutes in penalties. The 5-10, 172lb forward skated with the Royals during the 2012-13 season where he played in 38 games and collected 32 points (13g-19a) and 56 penalty minutes.
Hopkins, listed as a 5-9, 170lb forward has collected 32 points (12g-20a) and 31 minutes in penalties in 23 games this season. Last year, the Victoria, BC native suited up in 33 contests for South Island where he notched 12 points (2g-10a) and 42 penalty minutes. Hopkins was selected in the 12th round, 257th overall by the Saskatoon Blades during the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft. Haydn recently returned from a stint with the Blades where he skated in four games and collected one assist.
“The South Island Royals are very proud to have Nick and Haydn represent our team at the BCMML All-Star Game,” Royals’ Head Coach Geoff Grimwood said. “Both players have worked extremely hard this season and are very deserving of the recognition.”
The BCMML All-Star Game will take place on January 17, 2014 at the George Preston Centre in Langley, BC. The game will consist of 42 players representing all 11 Major Midget teams.
South Island returns home this weekend to kick-off the second half of the season with two games against the Thompson Blazers. Game one is scheduled for Saturday, January 11th at 12:00 p.m., with game two the following day at 9:45 a.m. Both games will take place at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre.
