Marika Lacroix of the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues women’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 5, 2014.

A fourth-year science and education student from Orléans, Ont., Lacroix scored the winning goal for the Aigles Bleues in Sunday’s 3-1 victory over the AUS first-place and CIS No. 5-ranked StFX X-Women.

Lacroix, who is the Aigles’ team captain, was also an integral part of Moncton’s 3-0 win Saturday over the AUS second-place and CIS No. 10-ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies.

Jason Bast of the St. Francis Xavier X-Men’s hockey team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 5, 2014.

A fourth-year human kinetics student from Regina, Sask., Bast posted four points in two X-Men wins this past weekend.

In Saturday’s 7-2 win over the CIS No. 4-ranked UNB Varsity Reds, Bast sparked the X-Men with a short-handed goal late in the first period to give them a lead which they never relinquished. He also scored the final goal of the game.

In Sunday’s 4-2 victory over the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus, Bast contributed two assists. He is currently the co-leader in StFX scoring with 16 points (five goals and 11 assists).
