January 11, 2014, Victoria (ISN) – The Victoria Cougars and Saanich Braves worked together last night to complete a trade that should bring positive results to all players involved as well as for both the Cougars and Braves programs.
The Cougars acquired 19-year-old forward Sam McMullen and 20-year-old defenceman Garrett Kemmler from the Braves. Both are expected to bolster the offence on the Cougars squad as they move down the final stretch of the regular season and prepare for what is going to be a very competitive VIJHL playoff. Both players are expected to be in the lineup for Sunday’s 3:30 p.m. home game with the Nanaimo Buccaneers.
In return, the Cougars sent Nyshan Basra, Jake Daughtry, and future considerations to the Braves. Basra is an 18 year-old with a positive upside. He will benefit from an immediate opportunity to play a bigger role with the Braves. Daughtry is a 20-year-old heart and soul player who will also get a chance to play a large role with the Braves for the balance of the season. More importantly, he is looking for opportunities beyond junior hockey and he will benefit since he will now have the support of both the Braves and Cougars in that endeavour. Both players are expected to be in the Braves lineup for today’s game at Kerry Park.
The Cougars wish to thank Nyshan and Jake for their contributions to our program and wish them the best of luck with the Braves and the future.
