January 11, 2014, Saskatchewan (ISN) – The University of Saskatchewan Huskies completed a sweep a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-20) victory over the visiting University of Winnipeg Wesmen Saturday night at the PAC in Saskatoon.

With the win, the Huskies improve to 7-7 to stay in the playoff race. Winnipeg drops to 4-9. A night earlier, Saskatchewan won 3-1 (25-14, 18-25, 25-17, 25-20).

Fifth-year outside hitter Candace Hueser led the Huskies in the win with 10 kills and seven digs. Middle blocker Kayla Tycholiz added another eight kills and three blocks.

Hailey Buhler led Winnipeg with 13 kills in the match. Ellina Domnidou tallied another eight kills and eight digs for the Wesmen.

Saskatchewan began to pull away from the Wesmen after a 13-13 tie in the first set. After Winnipeg committed a service and attack error, the Huskies took a two point lead. The Huskies continued to build on the small lead to a 25-19 win.

Tied at 16, the Huskies broke away again capitalizing on Wesmen mistakes. Winnipeg came as close as two points but couldn’t string a run together losing 25-19.

The Huskies jumped to a 9-3 lead in the third game. Winnipeg’s Chelsea Jones service run tied the set at 10. The Wesmen stayed with the Huskies until a Tycholiz service ace gave Saskatchewan a 16-15 lead. Saskatchewan continued to control the ball until the 25-20 win.

The Huskies remain at home to host provincial-rival the Regina Cougars next weekend, while Winnipeg returns home to host the Thompson Rivers WolfPack.
