January 20, 2014 (ISN) – Victoria, BC – USL PRO today announced the coaches for the 2014 USL PRO Combine presented by Nike, which is set to kick off at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida on Thursday and run through Sunday. Among those set to lead more than 100 players through training and scrimmages is Victoria Highlanders Head Coach Steve Simonson.

“It’s a privilege and honour for me to be invited to coach at the USL Pro Combine,” stated Highlanders Head Coach Steve Simonson. “I look forward to the opportunity to meet and surround myself around a great group of coaches and see the quality of players coming out of the PDL and into the Professional ranks.”

Victoria Highlanders coach Steve Simonson joins the Combine after leading the Highlanders to first place in the Northwest Division, a Western Conference Championship, and a berth into the PDL Final Four. It will be Simonson’ first appearance at the USL Pro Combine. Simonson has been with the Highlanders since the inaugural season in 2009, replacing Ian Bridge as Head Coach near the end of the 2012 season.

“We are very pleased to see Steve invited to coach at this year’s Combine,” Highlanders General Manager Mark deFrias said. “It’s a testament to the fantastic season the organization had in 2013 and Steve was an integral part of that success. In my opinion, this is further evidence of the quality of coaching we have in our organization and a reason why last years success will not be the last.”

The eighth edition of the USL PRO Combine presented by Nike is set to kick off on Thursday, January 23 at IMG Academy, with the weekend’s scrimmages set to be streamed live by Tourbeau Sports on the USL PRO YouTube channel. Final rosters for the event will be released on Tuesday.
