January 19, 2014, Mill Bay (ISN) – Connor Beauchamp recorded his second consecutive shutout and league-leading eighth goose egg of the season as the Victoria Cougars cruised to a 7-0 win over the Kerry Park Islanders on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Victoria improved to 30-8-1-1 while the Islanders dropped to 14-20-1-5. Both teams have eight games remaining on their respective schedules.
The Cougars now have a +115 goal differential.
Michael Fretz and Mark Walton scored twice while Blake Roney, Wade Johnson, and Jordan Marciniak each added singles.
Victoria, who scored five times on 14 power play opportunities, led 2-0 after one period and 5-0 after two.
Beauchamp only had to face 21 shots.
The Cougars won all eight meetings with Kerry Park, outscoring the Islanders 44-7 over that span.
Michael Herringer, who was acquired from the Nanaimo Buccaneers at the Jan. 10 trade deadline, made 52 saves in his Kerry Park debut.
The Islanders went 0-for-10 with the man advantage.
In Parksville, Derian Hamilton scored 34 seconds into overtime to lift the visiting Comox Valley Glacier Kings past the Oceanside Generals 4-3.
Next game for Victoria is Friday, January 24 against the Saanich Braves. Game time at the George R. Pearkes Community Recreation Centre, located at 3100 Tillicum Road, is 6:30 p.m.
