January 26, 2014, ASPEN, Colorado (ISN) – With a Fourth X Games Slopestyle Gold Medal in her pocket, Montreal’s Kaya Turski has proven her knee surgery is behind her and she is ready for Sochi.

After a first run that had her in second place behind American Maggie Voisin’s score of 90, Turski pulled out her Turkey Roll, Her Sw Cork 7 and her Sw cork 5 scoring 91.33 and the Gold Medal.

“I am thrilled,” said Turski, “to be back competing at a high level with all these amazing and talented women. My hard work has paid off and I couldn’t be more excited to be going to Russia to compete for Canada. The competition is pushing me to the next level and I’m thrilled to see my good friend Kim get her first X Games medal.”

“Kaya did everything perfectly,” said technical coach JF Cusson. “she went big, stomped every landing, every grab was clean and she was great on the rails. The degree of difficulty wasn’t as high as she is capable of, but her execution was flawless. Last week she had a C run, this week a B run…. Russia here we come.”

In 3rd place, with a score of 85 was Kim Lamarre winning her first ever X Games medal. “I couldn’t be happier to be on the podium with Kaya and Maggie. I just let it flow, and today, I got my sw7. It’s fantastic and it gives me a confidence going into the games.”

In fourth place with a score of 84 was Huntsville, Ontario’s Dara Howell. ” Dara had a great run,” said Cusson, “her Sw bio9 was huge, but she had a bit of a back seat landing on the cork7. It’s all part of the competition.”

In 8th place with a score of 75.33 was Whistler, B.C.’s Yuki Tsubota.

Said head coach Toben Sutherland, ” We are proud of all our athletes today. The team did an excellent job. Russia here we come!”
