February 3, 2014, Brandon, Manitoba (ISN) – Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, in association with the Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that 19-year old captain Ryan Pulock has been chosen the Western Hockey League club’s IMPACT Player of the Month for January.

A first round draft choice (15th overall) of the New York Islanders in the 2013 National Hockey League Draft in New Jersey, Pulock finished second in team scoring last month with three goals, thirteen points and a plus-3 ranking in eleven games.

A 19-year old native of Grandview, Manitoba, Pulock is averaging close to a point per game this season, having scored sixteen goals and 44 points in 46 games. The WHL all star is currently eighth in scoring among WHL blueliners. As well, he has been a steady influence on second year partner Ryan Pilon.

“Going into the Christmas break, I don’t think I was playing the best hockey,” Pulock recently told CKLQ’s Bruce Luebke. “Over Christmas, I forgot about it (World Junior Hockey Championships), re-focused and came back. I’m happy about my game. I feel good, I’m just looking forward to winning games down the stretch and then making a good playoff push.”

“Overall, I’m playing better – even in the defensive zone, which is leading for me to jump up and create more offence,” he went on to say. “I think it’s kind of a complete area of my game where I’m playing better, and it’s giving me the opportunity to help out more offensively.”

Since joining the Wheat Kings in September 2010, the former Parkland AAA Midget Ranger has scored 57 goals and 191 points in 241 career WHL games.

He joins Peter Quenneville, Jayce Hawryluk and Richard Nejezchleb as winners of this year’s monthly honour.

This award is presented to the Wheat King who contributes to the team and exemplifies the characteristics of what IMPACT stands for…Inspire, Motivate, Participate, Achieve, Champion and Team.

Pulock will be recognized at this Friday’s game against Swift Current at Westman Communications Group Place.

Fresh off a 4-game road trip that saw them collect three of a possible eight points, the Wheat Kings return to the friendly confines of Westman Place for back to back games this week against Medicine Hat and Swift Current on Wednesday and Friday nights. The 27-19-5-1 Wheat Kings are currently tied with the Broncos for first place in the WHL’s Eastern Division.

Tickets to both games are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at www.wheatkings.com
