February 4, 2014, OTTAWA (ISN) – There are three new national leaders in this week’s CIS rankings as the Alberta Golden Bears (men’s hockey), Toronto Varsity Blues (men’s swimming) and McMaster Marauders (men’s volleyball) all move up to No. 1 in their respective sport.

In other CIS disciplines, Windsor (women’s basketball), Carleton (men’s basketball), McGill (women’s hockey), UBC (women’s swimming & women’s volleyball), Guelph (women’s track & field), York (men’s track & field) and Brock (women’s & men’s wrestling) all held on to the pole position.

In men’s hockey, Alberta (21-2-1) and UNB (20-3-1) both move past the Calgary Dinos (20-2-2), who had topped the last five national rankings but were swept by Saskatchewan over the weekend, 4-3 and 10-2.

In men’s swimming, reigning CIS champion Toronto reclaims the top spot from the UBC Thunderbirds, who had bumped the Blues from the No. 1 position a week ago.

The game of musical chairs also continued in men’s volleyball as McMaster moved back to No. 1 after dropping to second place behind the Trinity Western Spartans last Tuesday. The Marauders (17-1) racked up two more wins over the weekend, while the Spartans (18-2) split a two-game series against ninth-ranked Brandon (9-11).
