February 6, 2014 (ISN) – The National Lacrosse League has announced Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month award winners for January of the 2014 NLL regular season.
Colorado Mammoth forward Adam Jones, who currently leads the NLL in goals (25) and is tied for the league lead with 40 points (25+15), won the Player of the Month award for January.
“In this league, you play only on weekends,” Jones said. “For me, the way I prepare is I think about the fact that all week, these teams are scouting you, these teams are thinking about the one game they have to execute on the things they’ve been practicing all week. The biggest thing in this league is to be consistent. You only get a few games and with 16 players, if one player’s not playing up to his potential, then your team’s likely not going to be very successful. That’s been a goal of mine – to be consistent.”
Jones has scored at least two goals in every game for Colorado so far this season and has scored three or more goals four times. The Canisius College product, a former first-round draft pick who won 2012 NLL Rookie of the Year, also ranks second in the league with 13 forced turnovers in 2014.
“It’s something I’ve always had a knack for,” said Jones about his defensive acumen. “Growing up, I realized that that’s the kind of thing that helps teams win. The awards are a testament to the work-ethic of our team in general and how well we’ve worked together.”
The third-year player will appear on the NLL Live interactive show on YouTube via The Lacrosse Network on Thursday, Feb. 6 (tonight) at 8 p.m. ET.
Vancouver Stealth forward Tyler Digby, who leads all rookies in goals (11), assists (11) and points (22), won the Rookie of the Month award. Digby, who played collegiate lacrosse and football at Robert Morris University, was the Stealth’s third-round selection (20th overall) in the 2013 NLL Entry Draft. The rookie has recorded at least two points in every game for Vancouver this season and has scored a hat trick twice.
“He’s doing what we expected,” said Stealth head coach Chris Hall. “We knew we had a good draft choice when we got him and he has really accomplished everything we’ve expected of him, and I expect him to continue to grow and get even better. He’s got great size, great hands, works hard and he’s tough to handle in front of the net.”

Adam Jones, Colorado Mammoth (7 GP, 23 G, 14 A, 37 PTS, 32 LB, 12 FT): Jones recorded a combined 37 points (23+14), with a single-game high of eight points (7+1) on January 25 against Calgary, along with 32 loose balls and 12 forced turnovers as Colorado posted a 2-5 record through January.
