February 8, 2014, MOSCOW, Idaho (ISN) – It was yet another record-breaking day for the Trinity Western track and field teams as six school records were set at the University of Idaho’s Vandal Indoor meet at Kibbie Dome Friday.

The Spartans were led by the men’s 4x200m relay team, who shattered the previous school record with a first place time of 1:26.81, which is the fastest clocked this year by any CIS school and betters the old TWU record of 1:30.55.

Also on the men’s side, Nathan George (Coquitlam, B.C.) crushed the 300m school record with a race-winning and personal best time of 33.86, which, like the men’s relay time, is the fastest time in the CIS this year. The school record, which George set in January, was 34.65.

In the men’s 4x800m relay, the Spartans also broke the TWU record, clocking a winning time of 7:46.11. The record, which was set in 2011-12, was 7:54.89.

On the women’s side, both the 4x200m and 4x800m teams also set school marks. The 4x200m team finished first with a time of 1:41.28 while the 4x800m team won its race in 9:03.15.

The previous 4x200m record was 1:41.65 and the previous 4x800m mark was 9:22.79. Both were set last year.

In the women’s 60m hurdles, Hazel Ross (Bishopton, Scotland) once again broke her own school record as she had a personal best time of 8.65 to finish third overall. She set the previous mark of 8.68 just last weekend at the Harry Jerome Indoor Classic.

In the 60m, Sabrina Nettey (Surrey, B.C.) finished third with a time of 7.67 while Liza Whitehead (Surrey, B.C.) posted a season’s best 7.80 in the heats.

“It was a pretty good first day in Idaho,” said Spartans coach Laurier Primeau. “We’re really pleased that we’re moving in the right direction and to see all these record broken is sign of the work that has been put in but also a sign things to come. But we have our sights set on bigger things and bigger goals as we prepare for the Canada West and CIS championships and even beyond that.”

The Spartans are back at Kibbie Dome Saturday for the Vandal Open.
