February 10, 2014 (ISN) – Seamus Maguire, (Victoria BC) Flin Flon Bombers, SJHL rookie of the week for period ending February 9. Also Tanner Froese, Alexi Thibaudeau, and Latrell Charleson.

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tanner Froese, Estevan Bruins

1993 F Tanner Froese (Estevan SK) picked up five goals in four games played last week as the Bruins have gotten themselves into the conversation for the sixth seed in the SJHL playoffs. Froese scored two goals in an overtime loss to Weyburn on Tuesday and then had his team’s only goal in Kindersley before notching a pair to help his team come from behind to beat the Battlefords North Stars on Saturday. Froese has enjoyed an excellent 20-year-old season as he sits at 21-goals and 30-assists through 48-games played.

SASKTEL SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK: Alexi Thibaudeau, Notre Dame Hounds

1995 G Alexi Thibaudeau (Regina SK) guided the Hounds to a weekend sweep of the Weyburn Red Wings, stopping 25 of 26 shots on Friday and then blocking all 35 on Saturday. He finished the week with a 2-and-1 record and a 1.31-GAA and .955-SPCT. Thibaudeau has performed very well as the season hits the stretch drive and is now 13-15-and-4 with a 2.60-GAA and .913-SPCT.

SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK: Latrell Charleson, Battlefords North Stars

1995 D Latrell Charleson (Surrey BC) is a major cog in the wheel on the blueline for the North Stars and he picked up four assists in two games played last week. Charleson, who is an extremely tough one on one player to go up against, has already established himself as a top defenseman and this is just his rookie season. He’s up to 4-goals and 21-assists in 44-games on the year overall.

SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Seamus Maguire, Flin Flon Bombers

1995 F Seamus Maguire (Victoria BC) picked up two goals and one assist in two games last week as the Bombers won both of their games to get back into the playoff picture. Maguire scored twice in a 6-4 victory over Melfort on Friday and then one night later, he set up the game winning goal as the Bombers came from behind and defeated the La Ronge Ice Wolves. He now has 2-goals and 3-assists in 33-games on the season.
