February 12, 2014, Courtenay, BC (ISN) – The Comox Valley will be playing host to the province’s best senior curlers February 17-22 when the 2014 Tim Hortons BC Senior Curling Championships get underway.

Eight men’s and eight women’s teams qualified through regional playdowns and will now compete for the B.C. senior curling crown. The winners will go to nationals in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories – the first ever national curling event to be held in the territories.

Judy Francis, chair of the host committee, said the Comox Valley Curling Club was proud to be hosting the event, which will bring together more than 64 curlers and their families.

Francis added: “The senior championships will make a significant economic impact in the region with money being spent on accommodation, meals, various activities and of course shopping for the entire week of competition.”

More than 60 volunteers from the Comox Valley have been working very hard to make sure these are the best championships ever. There has also been fantastic support from local businesses.

Francis said the Comox Valley will be the “place to be” next week. The resort area is packed with restaurants that specialize in local produce and seafood and the curling rink is sure to be buzzing with activity.

She said: “There will not be any charge for admission to the curling rink, so why not grab a friend and come down to the rink and watch the best curling in B.C.? The big screen TV will also be on to provide you with Olympic Curling coverage as well – a true daily double. You might even win the big screen TV.”

There will be three draws per day (9:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.) with the first draw on February 18th.
