February 12, 2014 (ISN) – The University of Victoria Vikes women’s golf team finished their final round at the Super San Diego Women’s Golf Championships, February 11 at River Walk Golf Course in San Diego, Calif., placing 10th in a field of 17 teams in their first tournament of the calendar year.
Michaela Abey continued to lead the Vikes in the tournament, shooting a second round score of 83, 11-over to finish the tournament in 18th place with a two-round total of 160, 16-over.
Third-year Vike Emily Nicol shot an 80, 11-over second round to finish second on the Vikes in scoring and tied for 45th overall in the tournament. Vikes captain Brynn Tomie rounded out the Vikes top-3 in 57th place overall with a two-round total of 172 while teammates Cari Chow and Laura Ferreira finished in 62nd and 63rd place overall, respectfully.
The Vikes dropped one place as a team in their final round of play, finishing in 10th with a 670, 94-over score line while California Baptist University pulled into sole possession of first place overall on the final day of play, finishing with a 622, 46-over score. CBU’s Nathalie Silva also finished first among individual golfers with a 71, 1-under-par second round, the only under-par round of any player in the tournament.
“Our bright spot on the weekend was the performance of Michaela Abey,” said Vikes interim head coach Justin Clews. “She showed consistency and confidence in her game both days. “
The Vike women’s team will now turn their focus to the Lady Cougar Spring Invitational, taking place Mar. 1-3, while the men will next head to Santa Clarita, Calif. to compete in The Master’s College Spring Invitational at Robinson Ranch Golf Course, Mar. 2-4.
