February 13, 2104 (ISN) – A former sports reporter in Waterloo Region has been allowed to return to Canada, almost three weeks after she was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill her hockey player boyfriend.

Tieja MacLaughlin, 25, was arrested on January 18 in Kennewick, Wash., and later charged with felony harassment domestic violence. She was required to surrender her passport and could not leave the two counties nearest to Kennewick, a city about 500 kilometres south of Kelowna, B.C., where she moved last fall.

But on Wednesday, MacLaughlin was permitted to return to Canada, provided she has no contact with her former boyfriend, 19-year-old Jackson Playfair, a forward with the Tri-City Americans junior hockey team.

Her case has been put over until February 11 of next year. Until then, MacLaughlin must undergo mental health treatment, and must not be charged with any other crimes.
