3rd Div Match Report
The Velox Thirds have opened their Spring campaign one and one, defeating CW in the opener, losing to the Bays on the weekend. Both games were played 12 aside with no push scrums, conditions not overly favorable to an aging team overrun with props.
This past Sunday, we had 13 at kickoff, played 12 aside, and started another new pair of Slater to Pickup at the pivotal 9-10 fulcrum. The game was played on a mud pitch at MacDonald, prompting yearns of the beloved beach. A quick look at the sides showed that Chad could have fathered 11 of their 12 starters. First half ended with us up 3 tries to 2, Pickup picking up a league leading yellow, this time disagreeing with the referee’s interpretation of the offside line.
The second half opened ala Mash unit, our 14 man team (one late arrival) soon down to 10, the majority of those representing any pace left. James Bay matched us at 11, but at 10 enjoyed the overlap. As is, they scored 3 to our 1 winning the game.
Congrats to trainer Mark for an impressive game and chain winner, Powell River Bill for playing the whole game and supplying the post game beer, Teigan and Chad for man of match performances. Thanks to James Bay for post games beer and grub, oh wait, didn’t happen.
Coming up, back to the land of the Victorian version of warm beer, bad teeth and pale complexions, CW this Sunday at Windsor. This is counter to the post game talk of a weekend bye, that schedule, its a living document.
