QUEBEC CITY — McGill won two gold medals, three silvers and six bronzes on the opening day of the RSEQ track and field championships, held Saturday at Laval’s Centre PEPS.
Maxime Beaumont-Courteau, a fifth-year medical student from Montreal, captured the men’s pole vault, clearing a height of 4.68 metres.
The men’s 4×200-metre relay squad finished atop the podium in one minute, 30.84 seconds. the quartet was composed of Redmen football player El-Hadj N’Doye of Sherbrooke, Que., in the leadoff leg, followed by Eric Ellemo of Hudson, Que., Alexander Steinbrenner of Montrealer and Javier Montalvo, from Closter, N.J.
Host Laval leads the men’s division with 79 points, followed by Sherbrooke (61), McGill (46) and UQAC (3). on the women’s side, Sherbrooke is the front-runner wth 83 points, followed by Laval (70), McGill (28) and UQAC (4).
