February 24, 2014, Brandon, MB. (ISN) – The Brandon Wheat Kings, in association with Atom-Jet Group have announced the winner of February’s Innovator of the Month Award.
The Major Pratt Trojans hockey team, who recently hosted a special “Help Fight Cancer Month”, will be recognized during the first intermission of this Wednesday’s Western Hockey League game at Westman Communications Group Place, between Brandon and the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes.
On Wednesday, January 22nd, the Trojans hosted Brandon’s Crocus Plainsmen and with the help of many people and the support of Russell Minor Hockey, Art Farm and many sponsors, the hockey club was able to raise over $13,000 for the Russell Heath Centre Cancer Clinic to purchase four new treatment chairs totaling $9,500. The remaining $3,500 will be put towards their future expansion.
In addition to the on ice presentation, Wednesday’s game will feature the annual Pucks 4 Pets Tennis Ball Toss for a Toonie! Fans attending the game are encouraged to purchase a numbered tennis ball for a chance to win a 2014-15 Wheat Kings Season Ticket. All proceeds from the sale of the tennis balls will be donated to the Brandon Humane Society.
Wednesday is also the second and final Rain Check game of the 2014-15 campaign. Any unused tickets (dated Dec. 10th to Feb. 22nd) can be exchanged at the Keystone Centre box office for a complimentary ticket to this game.
The game will also bring the curtain down on what has been an unbelievable busy month of hockey for the Wheat Kings. During a 26-day stretch this month, the WHL club was scheduled to play a total of fourteen games – eight on home ice and four away.
