February 25, 2014 (ISN) – It was a great weekend for Velox RFC, notching two wins against impressive opponents.
The Valkryies travelled to Klahanie Park to take on a strong Capilano side who have recently bolstered their roster with returning national team players.
Velox hooker Brittany Sims crossed the line twice for the visitors in a very close match. A game winning try from backrow Barbara Mervin sealed an impressive win for the ladies, final score 19-12.
Back at the VV beach, the Valhallians looked to avenge their only loss in Cowichan Cup play this season against the Black Sheep from Port Alberni.
A dominant performance ensued from the opening kick-off from the home team, winning comfortably 37-19. Although a lot of tries were left on the field by the Valhallians, a ton of improvement was shown as momentum builds for the all important May playoffs.
Kieran Dunford was great at inside centre, making his most impressive performance to date. Dunford is a product of the Velox junior program and its amazing to see him transforming from a dominant defender into a total package player.
Robb Carr at blindside flank was his usual game-changing self on both sides of the ball and rake Matt Evans was a menace at the breakdown all day long.
Thanks to the Black Sheep for making the snowy trip down for the game. Interesting to see Seattle’s game being postponed on the weekend due to weather. Was it really that much colder on the mainland or are the Valhallians and Black Sheep just more motivated? (couldn’t help myself).
- Women: Velox 19 – Capilano 12
- Valhallians: Velox 37 – Port Alberni 19
