February 26, 2014, Maple Ridge, BC (ISN) – The best women curlers in the province are heading back to Maple Ridge, Curl BC has announced.
The 2015 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship, Presented by Best Western, will be returning to the Golden Ears Winter Club in Maple Ridge after 11 years.
The event will take place January 18-25, 2015, and will showcase BC’s top women curlers who will be playing for the opportunity to represent the province at the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
Mike Mallett, manager of Golden Ears Winter Club, said the club – with its potential for a large rink-side seating area and a spacious upper lounge – was a great location for the Scotties.
“We last hosted it in ‘O4 and we’re looking forward to having it back. I haven’t seen members this excited for a long time.
“I’m looking forward to getting people out to watch and putting Maple Ridge on the map. We probably have one of the nicest curling clubs in the province, if not the country.”
Curl BC CEO Scott Braley said: “We are really looking forward to bringing the 2015 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship back to Maple Ridge. The Golden Ears Winter Club have been fantastic hosts in the past and we know they will put on another great show.”
The event is a 10-team round-robin competition, with the top four teams heading into a playoff round.
The semi-final and final will be televised on Sportsnet.
The Golden Ears Winter Club is located on 105th Avenue in Maple Ridge and is a six-sheet facility with three additional junior sheets for young curlers.
