February 27, 2014, Victoria (ISN) – The first major promotional event to be announced for the 2014 Victoria HarbourCats season is pure baseball fun – a Bobblehead of local product Kelly Norris-Jones.
Fisherworks Irrigation Services , owned and managed by Jeff Fisher, came forward to sponsor “Fisherworks Kelly Norris-Jones Bobblehead Night,” which will take place on Tuesday, June 17, a 7 pm start, when the division-rival Bellingham Bells are in Victoria to face the HarbourCats. Gates will open an hour prior to gametime.
The first 1,000 people through the gate will get a Fisherworks/Kelly Norris-Jones Bobblehead. For those who don’t know what a Bobblehead is, it’s a figurine in the likeness of a player, with a head that, well, it bobbles!
“Bobbleheads are the top giveaway item in baseball, and generate major fan interest,” said Jim Swanson, General Manager of the HarbourCats.
“Our marketing department has worked hard to make this happen. We have a local player in Kelly, one of our projected catchers, and what a perfect fit for a great promotion. Fisherworks is an outstanding irrigation services company, but beyond that a great community supporter and this will be a fun night for Jeff and his company. We hope Jeff is warming up his arm for the ceremonial first pitch, too!”
Kelly Norris-Jones is in his junior year at the University of Illinois, and is a product of the Victoria Mariners PBL program. Norris-Jones, whose father Brad works in marketing for the team, was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in 2010.
“It’s going to be an exciting evening for everyone, not just our company,” said Fisher. “It’s great the HarbourCats have a player like Kelly on their roster, from Victoria, and we’re glad to be involved.”
This is the first of many major promotional nights to be announced by the team – but the first time the HarbourCats have put a Bobblehead Night in place. Another Bobblehead Night is being worked on, featuring the team mascot, Harvey The HarbourCat. Date and details to be announced.
“We think this will be a fun night for everyone, and great promotion for Fisherworks,” said Swanson. “The list of interesting promotions we’ll announce as the season comes close will hopefully grab the interest and imagination of people in and around Victoria, and will pack the park with spectators. We all know teams play better when they have a large home crowd pumping them up, and that’s our goal – to help our players.”
Future announcements on promotional nights will include Fan Fest Fireworks dates, opportunities to win trips, special prizes for fans, and even a chance at winning a significant jackpot.
The HarbourCats, with Head Coach Dennis Rogers at the helm, will open camp in early June, then play the season opener on the road in Kelowna on June 6 before returning to Royal Athletic Park for the June 10 home opener against the division-rival Cowlitz Black Bears.
