February 27, 2014, VICTORIA (ISN) – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s golf team heads to their second tournament of 2014 at The Master’s College Spring Invitational Mar. 2-4 in Santa Clarita, Calif.

This weekend’s tournament will feature several teams competing for top-spot at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club.  At last year’s tournament, the Vikes finished in seventh place overall with a 70-over score line. Third-year Vike Jesse Teron finished as the top Victoria player, finishing in a tie for 22nd overall with a 231, 15-over score.
Vikes Carson Kallis, Bruce Tomie, Alex Cartwright, Jesse Teron and Sean Hay will make the trip to California for the Vikes, with both Carwright and Teron playing their way onto the roster after finishing as the top-2 Vikes at this year’s Cougar Invitational in San Marcos, Calif.
Guiding the Vikes on the trip will be interim head coach Justin Clews, whose team will leave Saturday with a practice round scheduled for Sunday afternoon. Competition in the two-day tournament begins Monday for the Vikes, with the final round finishing on Tuesday.
“Ultimatley, we should finish in the top-third of this weekend’s field,” said interim head coach Justin Clews. “I’m expecting better results than we’ve previously had, and our players are as well.”
It will be the first tournament of the calendar year for third-year Vike Carson Kallis, as well as first-year Vike and Golf Shootout champion Bruce Tomie. Kallis’ last tournament action took place at the Vikes Golf Shootout, while Tomie closed out 2013 at the San Marcos Invitational, Oct. 22.
The Vikes men’s golf team tees off in their second tournament of 2014, Mar. 2-4 at the Robinson Ranch Golf Club. The women will also be in action over the weekend, competing at the Lady Cougar Spring Invitational, Mar. 1-3 in San Marcos, Calif. For more information, please visit
