TWU Spartans Nettey finishes 5th in 60m, both 4X200m teams qualify for finals

March 7, 2014, EDMONTON (ISN) – On the first day of the CIS championships, Trinity Western’s Sabrina Nettey (Surrey, B.C.) finished fifth in the 60m while both the Spartans men’s and women’s 4x200m relay teams advanced to Saturday’s finals.

Competing at the Universiade Pavilion Thursday, Nettey clocked a time of 7.56, which was just four one-hundredths of a second behind the silver medal-winning time of Guelph’s Marissa Kurtimah. York’s Khamica Bingham won the event in a CIS record time of 7.26.

In the preliminaries for the 4x200m relays, the Spartans men’s team won its heat with a time of 1:28.95 and advanced to the finals with the fourth fastest time. The team consisted of Nathan George (Coquitlam, B.C.), Jamie Sinclair (Glasgow, Scotland), Nick Ayin (Coquitlam) and James Linde (Coquitlam).

In the women’s 4x200m preliminaries, TWU finished qualified for the finals with a time of 1:41.77, which was the sixth fastest in the heats. The team featured Maya Daly (Ajax, Ont.), Hazel Ross (Bishopton, Scotland), Anastasia Pearse (Victoria) and Liza Whitehead (Surrey).

The championships continue Friday and Saturday in Edmonton.
