Georgia to face All Blacks Challenge at RWC 2015

IRB Rugby2015

March 15, 2014 (ISN) – World champions New Zealand await the top European qualifiers Georgia as the Lelos beat off a brave Romanian challenge in Tbilisi to win the FIRA-AER European Nations Cup Division 1A title.

In what was always expected to be a tight, tense battle in front of a capacity crowd of 27,000 at Mikheil Meskhi Stadium in the Georgian capital, a try by tight-head prop David Zirakashvili of Clermont Auvergne coupled with some excellent marksmanship by full-back Merab Kvirikashvili was enough for Georgia, who finally won out 22-9.

So October 2, 2015 has suddenly become a big day in Georgia’s sporting calendar as they will face the All Blacks in the famous Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, for what will surely be one of the great Rugby World Cup occasions.

In addition to New Zealand, Georgia will play Tonga on September 19 in Kingsholm, Argentina six days later at the same venue and the Africa 1 qualifier – yet to be determined – on October 7 at Sandy Park, Exeter.
