March 14, 2014, Vancouver (ISN) – The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Vancouver Giants 6-5 in a back and forth Western Hockey League game Friday night in Vancouver.
Justin Kirkland and Madison Bowey each scored twice for the Rockets, who took control of a 1-1 game with a five-goal outburst in the second period.
Vancouver bounced back with four third period goals to cut the Rockets lead to 6-5, before Kelowna closed out the win, it’s club record 56th of the season.
Myles Bell and Rourke Chartier also scored for the Rockets, while Marek Tvrdon and Ryan Olsen chipped in with two assists. Jackson Whistle earned the win in net.
Vancouver outshot Kelowna 34-30 in front of 13,699 fans at Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver.
It was another record-setting night for the Rockets, who continue to build on the most successful regular season in club history, with one game remaining in the regular season.
The win was the Rockets 29th of the season on the road, tying the WHL record set last season by Portland. Bowey’s second goal was his 20th of the season, a new Rockets franchise record for goals by a defenceman in a season.
Kelowna and Vancouver will close out the WHL regular season Saturday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna.

Kelowna opens the WHL playoffs March 22 at Prospera Place against the Tri-City Americans.
