March 15, 2014, Everett, WA (ISN) – The Victoria Royals concluded the best regular season in franchise history on Saturday night at Comcast Arena when they faced the Everett Silvertips. The Royals gave Coleman Vollrath the start between the pipes, while the Silvertips countered with Austin Lotz.

The two teams also met Friday night, and hostilities were renewed midway through the first period when Victoria’s Tyler Soy dropped the gloves for his first career fight with Noah Juulsen. Vollrath was sharp throughout the first period and Logan Nelson opened the scoring to give the Royals a lead at the 18:51 mark. Joe Hicketts hit Nelson with a breakaway pass before the Rogers, MN native made a quick deke to his backhand that sent the visitors to the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.

Mirco Mueller leveled the score for the Silvertips with a powerplay point shot at the 7:12 mark of the second period. Everett then took their first lead of the game at 14:52 when Ben Betker beat the Royals’ netminder with a low shot glove side. The two teams played out a heated, physical frame and the Silvertips held a 2-1 edge after 40 minutes.

The back-and-forth action continued in the third period, but Victoria began to gain momentum late. With just 3:31 remaining, Soy gave the Royals an equalizer with his 15th goal of the season. Brandon Magee spotted Soy in the slot from the right corner where the rookie fought off a check and knocked it through Lotz. The tie stood for just over two minutes until Carson Stadnyk gave Everett the game-winning goal with just 1:28 left in regulation. Silvertips 3 Royals 2.

Victoria went 0/1=0.0% on the powerplay, while Everett went 1/3=33.3%. The Silvertips outshot the Royals 25-24.
