March 20, 2014, MONTREUIL, France (SN) – Karine Thomas of Gatineau, Que., and Jacqueline Simoneau of Montreal posted fourth place finishes in the duet technical final and duet free preliminaries on Thursday at the France Open Make Up For Ever synchronized swimming competition.
In the duet technical final, Wenyan Sun and Xuechen Huang of China were first at 90.5577, Lolita Ananasova and Anna Voloshyna of Ukraine second at 88.9171 and Yukiko Inui and Risako Mitsui of Japan third at 88.8897.
Simoneau and Thomas followed in fourth at 86.5986.
“Our execution was more solid than last week (at the German Open),” said Thomas. “However we still have a few things we need to work on like our synchronization and style of presentation.”
It was the same standings in the duet free qualifying round. The Chinese lead at 93.1000, the Ukrainians are second at 90.7667 and the Japanese third at 90.400. Simoneau and Thomas tallied 88.2000. The final is on Friday.
“We felt it was just like a regular every day practice,” said Simoneau. “We were in control and confident.”
Last week in Bonn at the German Open, Thomas and Simoneau, in their first season together, won the bronze medal in the free duet.
Competition continues through to Saturday.
