New attendance record set at CIS men’s hockey championship

March 23, 2014, SASKATOON (ISN) – The 2014 PotashCorp University Cup presented by Co-op drew a seven-game total of 41,089 fans at Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon, setting a new attendance record for the CIS men’s hockey championship.

The previous tournament mark – also over seven matches – had held since 2000 when 40,956 spectators turned up at Saskatchewan Place, which has since been renamed Credit Union Centre.

In the 52-year history of the University Cup tourney, the five most attended championships have all been held in Saskatoon, including in 2014 (41,089), 2000 (40,956), 2013 (38,347), 1999 (37,184) and 1998 (37,121).

The 2014 PotashCorp University Cup presented by Co-op is hosted by the University of Saskatchewan. The Alberta Golden Bears and Saskatchewan Huskies face off in today’s gold-medal final, in front of a crowd of 6,289.
