March 24, 2014, VICTORIA (ISN) – The University of Victoria Vikes men’s team completed the opening two rounds in the Battle at Primm, March 24 at Primm Valley golf course. Vike Sean Hay’s second hole eagle in his opening round highlighted a Vikes day that saw them finishing in a tie for 15th place after carding a team score of 604.
Matthew Broughton and Hay led the Vikes on the leaderboard, with both finishing in a tie for 48th after an opening day 151 score. Johnson & Wales University’s Peter French led the field with a two-round total of 138, while Oklahoma City University sits atop the leaderboard after two rounds with a 569 team score.
The opening round of play saw Hay leading the Vikes with a 1-over, 73 score line. Teammate Broughton and Jesse Teron rounded out the top-3 scores for the Vikes with rounds of 74 and 76, respectively. Vike Alex Cartwright also posted a 76 after 18 holes, while brother Jamie rounded out the roster with score of 83.
“I was happy with how our guys played in the opening round, especially Sean and Matt,” said Vikes interim head coach Justin Clews. “Jesse’s score was not indicative of his play as he actually tripled and double-bogeyed a couple of his later holes. He would have shot under-par, but unfortunately those two holes didn’t allow that to happen.”
The second round saw the men finishing with a team score of 305, led by Jamie Cartwright, who cut nine shots off of his opening round score to card a 2-over, 74 second round.
The men enter Tuesday’s third and final round in a tie for 15th place. Tee-off is set for 8:30 a.m.
