March 28, 2014, AUSTIN, Texas (ISN) – Riley McCormick continues to rack up accolades for Arizona State diving. On the opening day of the 2014 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships from the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, McCormick notched an 8th place finish in the 1-meter diving event.

By accomplishing this, the now three-time All-American earned himself another first-team award as a Sun Devil.

In preliminaries, McCormick received a score of 363.60, also 8th best out of 34 divers. In the finals he improved on his score, increasing it to a 364.55, which earned 11 points towards ASU’s final Championship score.

Michael Hixon, a freshman from Texas, took first place with a score of 443.50.

McCormick has had an impressive string of success ever since coming to Arizona State ever since he came to Arizona State in 2009-10. In that season he won Pac-10 Diver of the Year and Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year, and quite the newcomer he turned out to be. In 2010-11 McCormick took home his second-straight Pac-10 Men’s Platform Championship along with Pac-10 Player of the Year, before taking the year off from ASU diving to participate for Canada in the Olympics for a second-straight time.

He has recently found success off the springboard as well, winning this year’s Pac-12 3-Meter Championship and Canadian National Title in the same event. Now, with his 8th place finish, the 1-meter helped earn him his third All-American honor.

On Friday senior Alex Coci and freshman Luke Clohessy will join the action for the Devils. Coci is set to compete in the 100 fly while Clohessy will be diving in the 3-meter, along with McCormick.
