3rd Div Match Report

(written by John Lyall)

The Velox Thirds got back on the winning track on a Saturday game against the newly formed Vancouver Island University Storm. The Storm have taken up Nanaimo’s thirds spot this year. Pretty exciting for a new team in the Thirds league, hopefully VIU can form a stable team in the Thirds league.

Cautioned by their coach and ref that the Storm may have some novice players, we prepared for the game with 24 players, wtf. Chad’s philsophy isn’t complicated and showed the ultimate respect for VIU by stating “we need to hit to hurt”. As the game started, we played 15 a side with the promise of contested sets. Contested sets lasted two scrums, as fullback McDougall offered “well you guys were crumbling them”. What the VIU could do was hit, and the youngsters really enjoyed the physicality of the match.

The Thirds were flush with available players, with the regulars plus welcoming back Zimmer from travels, McDougall and Jason Allen from Barney, Welshan Liam, Sanii and his two friends named Matt, and Academites Dan Dennis and Cody Walker who notched two tries each.

43 – 7 was the final score in a physical affair with Dennis winning the chain. Welcome again the Storm to the league.

Next up is CW away Sunday (makeup from February)
