For the second time in her storied career, Tracy Wong of the Humber Hawks’ badminton team has been named to Canada’s FISU World University Championship team. The fourth-year star, who has qualified for the CCAA Badminton National Championships every year and has earned either a gold or silver CCAA national championship medal every time, will be headed to Cordoba, Spain this summer.
Just last month, Wong was named the 2014 CCAA Women’s Badminton Player of the Year for the second time, and won silver in mixed doubles at the 2014 CCAA Badminton National Championship. She has also been named the OCAA Player of the year and a CCAA All-Canadian every year she’s been eligible.
Wong participated in the FISU Games two year ago in Korea, and is hopeful her prior experience will give her a leg up on what should be a stacked field.
She’s competed against Olympic athletes before, and will be headed to Spain with lofty expectations for herself. For a student-athlete with Wong’s combination of work-ethic and skill, the sky is the limit. The CCAA and Humber College all look forward to seeing her compete with the world’s best.
The CCAA is a national sport organization that enriches the lives of student-athletes through intercollegiate competition.
