OTTAWA – Team Aquatic Supplies LTD. is renewing its support as an official supplier of Swimming Canada for another year.
This year’s sponsorship brings the total invested into Canadian swimming by TAS since 1990 to $1 million.
Doug Perks, owner of the North Vancouver, B.C., company, says his passion for supporting Canadian swimming dates back to a small scholarship he received at Simon Fraser University in the 1960s.
“I grew to really like the aquatic community,” says the Trenton, Ont., native, who has been in the business since 1980. “Team Aquatic Supplies LTD. has close to 50 full- and part-time people at nine locations across Canada. A lot have come from swimming backgrounds, whether as coaches, lifeguards, or parents of swimmers. I personally really like to be able to put support money back into the industry that’s made me successful.”
Perks was elected to the BC Swimming Hall of Fame as a builder in 2010 in recognition of his strong support of Canadian swimming at all levels. Team Aquatic Supplies is Swimming Canada’s exclusive team dealer for swimming equipment, and presenting sponsor of the Power Rankings, a powerful online tool to track progress and improve performance of Canadian athletes.
Each year TAS combined with DB Perks and Associates donates more than $75,000 to swimming and aquatics in Canada. The sponsorship includes bursaries, scholarships, and support of Swimming Canada’s annual Big Splash Awards for Male and Female Para-Swimmer of the Year.
“The relationship between Team Aquatic Supplies and Swimming Canada is a perfect fit,” said Chris Wilson, director of marketing, events and communications for Swimming Canada. “They provide top quality products and excellent customer service for swimmers and coaches from coast to coast. The $1 million mark is certainly a testament to this Canadian company’s ongoing support of Canadian swimming.”
