April 4, 2014, LANGLEY, British Columbia (ISN) – The Trinity Western Spartans ended the spring women’s soccer season with a 1-1 draw with the Western Washington Vikings Friday night at Rogers Park on the TWU campus in Langley, B.C.
“We moved the ball really nicely at times against a good athletic team and it was a real good competitive spring game. There was a little sloppiness but it was a good run for some of our inexperienced kids. I’m disappointed that we gave away a poor goal, but we had a great goal by Jenn to tie it up,” commented TWU head coach Graham Roxburgh. “In the end it was a productive outing and some kids took a good step forward. I was really pleased with Jessica King tonight she was exceptional and was a threat every time she was on the ball.”
The Vikings opened the scoring in the 15th minute off of a defensive breakdown on a WWU corner kick.
The Spartans tied the match up in the 33rd minute when Jennifer Castillo converted a Alicia Tesan corner kick to put TWU on the scoreboard.
The two teams would remain tied at 1-1 at the end of the first 45 minutes.
TWU controlled much of the play in the second half, but the Spartans were unable to get the go ahead marker as the two squads ended the match in a 1-1 draw.
Christina Oliverio played the first half in net for the Spartans, while Rachel Bedek played the second half for TWU.
