April 5 ISN – It was a successful start to Day Two for Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team as they defeated England 19-10 in the Cup Quarterfinal at the China Sevens.

Dating back to last year’s China Sevens, Canada has advanced to six straight Women’s Sevens World Series Cup Semifinals.

Canada will play Australia at 2:12 p.m. local time.

(Starting seven: Bianca Farella, Sara Kaljuvee, Jen Kish, Kayla Moleschi, Karen Paquin, Kelly Russell and Ashley Steacy)

Breaking through two English defenders, Bianca Farella opened the scoring for Canada with her third try of the tournament. It was Farella’s 21st try of the season, the second most of any player in this year’s WSWS.

Despite some strong tackling from Canada in the opening half, England were able to put some points on the board just before the hooter sounded as Michaela Staniford touched down to bring her team back to within two points at the break.

A quick second half try from Jen Kish restored Canada’s seven-point lead, but England were quick to respond as a Megan Ellery try and Sarah Mckenna conversion made it a 12-10 game.

Canada was able to increase their lead to 19-10 after Karen Paquin scored her team-high fourth try of the tournament.

Canada improved to 2-0 against England in this year’s WSWS.

All the games from round 4 of the IRB Women’s Sevens World Series will be streamed live on
