Marika Guérin, guard for the Nomades de Montmorency women’s basketball team in Quebec City, has been named the 2014 CCAA Female Athlete of the Year Across All Sports.
When the Nomades went undefeated through the regular season and earned their second consecutive RSEQ provincial championship and CCAA Women’s Basketball National Championship
titles, she was named both Player of the Game and tournament MVP in the CCAA gold-medal match.
“She’s an outstanding player, and she’s had a great season,” says Veronique Champoux, member of the CCAA awards committee. “She leads her team and pretty much led the CCAA national championship tournament.”
Guérin averages 9.6 points per game and ranks second in the RSEQ conference in 3-point percentages. She volunteers at Montmorency events, coaches at local basketball camps, works part-time and has an 81 per cent academic average.
The CCAA is a national sport organization that enriches the lives of student-athletes through intercollegiate competition.
