Victoria Mariners home opener is here!

April 11, 2014, VICTORIA (ISN) – The Premier Victoria Mariners will open their 2014 season with a double header against the North Shore Twins at Henderson Park on Saturday.

Opening Day ceremonies prior to the event will include the official pitch by local MLA Andrew Weaver and the singing of the national anthem by 9-year old singing sensation Lily Cave of Willows Elementary.

“This year our team is looking to finish in the final four at the end of the season and have a good run to the top,” said Mike Chewpoy, coach of the Premier Mariners.

As the team begins play in their 14th season, thoughts still prevail for their teammate Zack Downey who continues his battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Various fundraisers are taking place to support the Downey family to offset expenses in alternative medicine treatment after traditional treatment methods have failed.

Opening ceremonies begin at 12:40 p.m. with the game getting underway at 1:00 p.m.
