MONTREAL — Daphnee-Maude Andre-Morin of the McGill University women’s volleyball team has earned CIS all-Canadian second team honours. The 22-year-old native of Vaudreuil sur le Lac, Que., who was raised in Kitchener, Ont., was voted libero of the year in the Quebec conference, while earning RSEQ all-star honours for the second time.

Also voted as the team MVP, she becomes the 11th all-Canadian in team history but only the sixth different McGill player to merit the honour, joining Wendy Whelan (1998), Shauna Forster (twice: 2001, 2002), Jennifer Thomson (five times: 2006-2010), Kelsey Irwin (2011) and Kaiva Mateus (2012).

A three-time RSEQ libero-of-the-year, André-Morin became the only McGill player to claimed that award at the CIS level in 2011-12. The fifth-year education senior who majors in teaching French as a second language, had an impressive comeback season after sitting out the entire 2012-13 campaign while recovering from a torn ACL in her knee. The 5-foot-7 veteran posted a league-leading 4.72 digs per set, which ranked second in the nation. Her season total of 335 digs ranked third in the CIS. On offence, she averaged 0.42 assists per set.

For overcoming her traumatic knee injury, she received the University’s Dr. Mac Teskey Trophy, presented to an individual who has overcome significant adversity to serve as an inspiration to others.

Among the other 2014 CIS major award winners in volleyball was Lisa Barclay of UBC, who was named player of the year for the 2013-14 season. Other awards went to Katia Forcier of the Montreal Carabins (rookie of the year), Brandon’s Donata Huebert (libero of the year), Brandon’s Lee Carter (coach of the year) and Memorial’s Adrienne Penney (academics & community service award).
