April 23, 2014, Kamloops, BC (ISN) – The Kamloops Blazers are represented at the U-18 Men’s World Hockey Championships in Finland as 18-year-old defensemanEdson Harlacher is the team captain for Switzerland.
Harlacher was selected by the Blazers with the 55th overall pick in the 2013 CHL Import Draft. As a first year player, the 6’3” and 185lb defenseman had a solid season, as he played in 71 games and recorded nine assists.
The Zurich, Switzerland native was a steady presence for the Blazers. He was selected as the Blazers Rookie of the Year for the 2013-14 season.
Harlacher was recently ranked 196th among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s final rankings for the upcoming 2014 NHL Draft.
The Switzerland team opened the U-18 World Championships with a victory as they upset USA 4-2, and finished the round robin with a 2-2 record. Harlacher is pointless in four round robin games.
Switzerland finished fourth in Pool B and will face Canada in a quarter-final game on Thursday, April 24th at 9:00am/PT. The game will be featured in Canada on TSN.
The U-18 Men’s World Championships run from April 17-27 in Lappeenranta and Imatra, Finland.
