April 22, 2014 (ISN) – The ‘She Kicks’ program for 2014 recently concluded and we are pleased to announce that it was a great success.
The program is a partnership between Lower Island Soccer Association and the University of Victoria Women’s Vikes soccer team that is geared to the development of female soccer coaches. This past winter the University hosted two female only coaching courses for players in grades 10 through 12 and certified 31 coaches through the Active Start program and a further 23 coaches through the Fundamentals stage.
“I am absolutely delighted by the response that we have had for the Coaching program in the She Kicks Campaign. Every year the numbers of females that are being certified to coach through this program is increasing. I believe that the program is working and in the next 5 or 6 years I hope that we see these young women coaching in various clubs and the Provincial team’s program.” commented Tracy David, Vikes Women’s head coach.
In its second year the goal of She Kicks is to provide a supportive environment for female coaches to take their first steps in to coaching in order to provide more female role models for the younger girl’s players within the Lower Island district.
“Our goal is to develop a world leading grassroots coaching development program here in the LISA district and the ‘She Kicks’ program is a key piece of that programming added.” LISA head coach Andrew Latham
