April 24 2014 ISN – IMATRA, Finland – Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team has earned a place in the
semifinals at the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship after a 3-2 win over
Switzerland in Thursday’s quarter-finals.

Canada will play the Czech Republic in its semifinal in Lappeenranta, Finland, on
Saturday, April 26. The game that can be seen live on TSN and RDS, Hockey Canada’s
official broadcasters, at noon ET/9 a.m. PT. Check your local listings for broadcast
times in your area.

Sweden and the United States will meet in Saturday’s other semifinal.

On Thursday, Travis Konecny (Clachan, Ont./Ottawa, OHL) scored the game-winning goal
with 30 seconds to go in the third period for the Canadians, who are into the
semifinals for the fourth year in a row. Jake Virtanen (Abbotsford, B.C./Calgary,
WHL) and John Quenneville (Edmonton, Alta./Brandon, WHL) had the other goals for
Canada, while Mason McDonald (Halifax, N.S./Charlottetown, QMJHL) made 19 saves to
earn the victory.

Canada is attempting to win its fourth gold medal at the IIHF Ice Hockey World U18
Championship, having previously taken home the top prize in 2003 in Yaroslavl,
Russia, 2008 in Kazan, Russia and 2013 in Sochi, Russia.
