VANCOUVER – Five UBC Thunderbirds helped Canada’s Under-20 men’s national team to a seventh-place finish at the 2014 International Rugby Board (IRB) Junior World Rugby Trophy in Hong Kong.
T-Bird Connor Hamilton captained the Canadian squad, which also featured UBC players Neil Courtney, Jorden Sandover-Best, Ben LeSage and Harjun Gill.
In its final match, Canada defeated Hong Kong 33-30, despite completing the second half with 14 players.
The Maple Leafs opened the tournament with a 37-25 defeat at the hands of Namibia and followed that result up with an 18-18 draw against Uruguay on April 11. Canada dropped its third match 37-12 to Japan before rebounding to defeat the hosts.
The 2015 IRB Junior World Rugby Trophy will be held in Lisbon, Portugal.
